WordPress 2.6 theme and plugin upgrades

WordPress 2.6 (Tyner) is out, which means it’s time for a round of WordPress theme and plugin updates.

I’ve updated two plugins and two themes:

Please note these are WordPress 2.6-only upgrades. Downloading these for previous versions of WordPress may break your blog.

Continue reading to see which files you should definitely update if you’re using the Structure or Options themes. You might want to clear your browser’s cache or download history if you’ve recently downloaded one of the themes to be sure you get the latest version.

Options theme changes

Here’s the changelog for version 1.2.1.

Critical update files

I advise you to update these files if you are running WordPress 2.6.
  • /app/get-the-image.php
  • /includes/gallery-stream.php
  • /widgets/gallery-stream.php

Enhancements

These are not necessary, but will allow you to set your default avatars from the admin panel, which is a WordPress 2.6 feature. Also, comments.php is ready for the Subscribe To Comments plugin (valid XHTML fix).

  • comments.php
  • single.php
  • author.php

Version changes

These aren’t necessary, but will help you keep track of what version of the theme you’re using.

  • style.css
  • readme.txt
  • functions.php

Structure theme changes

Here’s the changelog for version 1.2.1.

Critical update files

You should update these files for WordPress 2.6 compatibility.

  • /app/get-the-image.php

Enhancements

The enhancements let you control your avatars from the WordPress admin. Also, comments.php is ready for the Subscribe To Comments plugin.

  • comments.php
  • author.php

Version changes

These files will allow you to keep up with what version of the theme you’re using but are not necessary.

  • style.css
  • readme.txt
  • header.php

Now, you can safely upgrade!

Most of the critical upgrade theme files here are only critical if you’re using certain features. I always advise users to stay updated on the software, plugins, and themes they’re using.

Feel free to stop by the forums if you need help or experience any problems. See the changelog files if you’ve made major changes to that file and need to manually upgrade.

Now, as soon as bbPress updates, I’ll be able to update my own WordPress install.
