I just announced the release of the Hybrid WordPress theme at Theme Hybrid.
I wanted to also point this out on my blog here because this theme is what I’ve been working on for just over four months.
I’ve learned more about coding in those four months than I’ve learned in the past four years, studying every little piece of code I could get my hands on, digging through the core WordPress files to find functions I never knew existed.
It’s the theme I’ve been building up my coding skills for years to develop. It’s the reason I love developing for WordPress so much.
This is actually version 0.3 of the theme, but I haven’t felt ready to publicly release it until now.
Why you need to try this theme out
It’s compatible with WordPress 2.5 – 2.7. Yes, that means you get threaded comments.
A lot of people will probably say the Options theme was the pinnacle of my theme development career. Hybrid is everything that Options is not.
It’s about SEO optimization. About ease of use. Pushing WordPress beyond what we’ve pushed it before.
It is the most powerful theme I’ve ever created, yet, it is simple to use.
And, there’s a few more features:
- Created with child themes in mind. You won’t lose your customizations with theme updates.
- Theme options that are about your content and won’t get in the way of design.

Theme information
I’ve released this theme under the GPL, which is the route I plan on taking with all future themes. This will be the framework that I hope to build 90% or so of my future themes upon.

If I didn’t build-up a child theme for my unfinished new site, which I planned to be running on Options, I’d rethink about switching to Hybrid so I’d not need to add the drop-cap function and many other things in the
functions.phppage.Hybrid is using CSS frame works, so there is no browser compatibility hassle, too.

I like the GPL idea too, which is why I’m probably going GPL with all my future coding projects.
I’ve been building the base framework that Hybrid uses for a few months now, but Options has a CSS file that’s similar if you want to make use of it.
By the way, that’s a cool-looking child theme you’ve made.
Nice work. The options theme was fantastic, but this new theme may very well be the pinnacle of your theme work.

Hey yo Justin! What versions of WP and bbPress are you using for this? I have been banging my head against WP2.7 and bbPress Alpha 2 for a few days now and cannot include WP functions in bbPress without losing the bbPress capabilities.
Any pointers?
I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Hybrid is just a WordPress theme, so it has nothing to do with how bbPress works.
This may not be the right place to ask this since it’s obviously not meant for support…
But… It appears you have cleanly integrated bbPress and WordPress together, logins and logouts and administration panels and the like, at least at the Hybrid site anyhow… Assuming you enjoy being on the bleeding edge of technology like I do, my guess is you’re using wp2.7 and bbp1.0a2.
I’m having some difficulty getting them to play nice together, and was wondering if you integrated your users tables or if you needed to pull any tricks to get everything running properly.
