Pop Critics...reviewing pop culture so you don't have to

Some of you may remember that I told you a while back that I was taking the plunge and working online from home. Well, that hasn’t changed. However, I also wanted to have a little fun and do some other things I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

At about the same time, an opportunity revealed itself. One of my favorite sites was shutting down. After talking with the owners (and going through all the legal stuff), I became the proud owner of Pop Critics.

Why I took over the site

For one, I didn’t want to see it go because they’ve always had some great material to keep my inner pop culture nerd satisfied.

Mostly, I wanted to get back into writing about things other than WordPress a bit. I love all things TV, movies, and books — a perfect match.

I’ve also always secretly wanted to redesign the site, which I’ll be doing soon.

So, this is the fun thing I wanted to add to my schedule to sort of let off some steam.

Do you like popular culture enough to write about it?

I’ll go ahead and let you know, this isn’t a paying gig. It’s all about having a little fun.

If you like anything about any movies, television series, books, comics, music, or any other facet of Pop Culture, this may be an opportunity to get your name out on a well-known site.

Just drop me a line or leave a comment below if you want to participate in this project. I’ll get back to you ASAP.

This could be loads of fun!

Thanks. I’m hoping I have a few readers that share the same interests as me. I think the site will be really huge once we get things rolling a bit more.

Hey thanks for the help before I meant to congratulate you on the new venture. Took a quick look I will be stopping by.

I will give the link to my wife she’s a Lost fanatic and contributes to a bunch of forums - and she is a writer :wink.

Are you going to re-do the site with Hybrid?

    Good Luck!

Please, by all means, give the link to your wife. We sure could use a few extra writers.

I am actually building the site on top of Hybrid, which is going to be kind of cool because I’m working with more of a magazine-type layout.

    Hi Justin,

I have been following your site via RSS for some time now (thanks, btw) and I would love to write for Pop Critics. I have published and written for several print magazines and I’m the owner of Mudsugar — http://mudsugar.com — which has been on a very long hiatus but will start back up next year focusing on my original plan of underground music and arts.

I see more movies than anyone I know, making me the local go-to-guy on what to see. I also have a select number of tv shows that I watch religiously that I would be happy to write about, including Entourage, Dexter, House, The Office, 30 Rock, Fringe, Life, and Lost. I also watch a lot of documentary style TV shows such as Top Gear, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and Mythbusters.

Good luck and hope to hear from you,
    Cary Scott

    Hi Justin

How can you manage all you projects? it’s admirable. Maybe the new twist in the forums at hybrid will grant you some exstra time.

It seems that the site has a wide definition of pop. I would never have guessed that Bruce Cambell could be included in that category :-)

If that’s pop then I would love to write something about Mike Pattons, Dave Lombardo, Trevor Dunn and Buzz Osbornes Fantômas, which might be a rhizomatic approach to pop :-)

Anyway congrats with the site, the feed is in my google reader now.

Mudsugar may be the single, coolest domain name on the Web.

I’m definitely interested in your work. I’ll send you an email.

Well, I just never sleep or leave my computer. ;)

Popular culture is a very hard term to nail down. Bruce Campbell may not be as mainstream as some other stuff on the site, but it’s definitely worth a post or two if one of the writers or the site’s audience is interested in it. Some stuff actually never falls under the realm of pop culture without folks writing about it and letting the masses hear about it.

If you’re honestly interested in writing, I could use anyone.

I might be interested- I’ll mail you when I have a good subject, because I would love to write a post or two about swedish pop band Kent or what makes Godfather one of the best movies ever…

  9. Justin Tadlock

Cool. Just shoot me an email whenever.
