Hi Justin,

Like so many have written before me, I too am hopeful from reading your post. I googled "how to get my passion back" and your blog came up. I do not consider myself gifted in the least but I do start lots of new things and fiddle with them for a while then go to another thing. I think it's equivalent to the people who do things for the adrenalin rush and keep doing more things for it. I like the feeling of excitement when I begin a new project or learning adventure. Once I get going though it seems to become "the norm" so I move. Just as you've said above, I have no schedule. I feel undisciplined and blah about things just now. I don't like it. A passion for one specific thing, that lasts a lifetime, would be a nice change.

Thanks for the inspiration. I'll definitely be mulling this over to really sort out my priorities and then go for it.

I look forward to seeing your name on a book!

Hi Justin,

You know, I woke up this morning feeling so lost... and I googled "How to find your passion in life when you like too many things". Your post popped up. And man, isn't it a life saver!

I had never thought that being 'gifted' could be so troublesome :)
I guess sticking to a schedule and completing one thing before starting another is one of the things that I could try.

Also, what John James Jacoby has said - "...once you can sit down and relax and evaluate who you are versus who you wish you were, and take steps to bridge those gaps..." - seems like a powerful approach.

All the best to you and to me!

Hey justin,

It's great, and nice to hear that you've rekindled this love for writing. There's a quote from Jose Rizal's poem Ala Juventud Filipina which I love and continue to say again and again in times like these: "Break the chains that shackle your talents"(Translated into English of course). More power to you, and I wish you all the best..

Wow..your story is almost same as mine.. I really know what you talking about.. I am far away from home too. But not in America i live in Europe. Sometimes i don't have motivation and focus on one thing but i've constantly switching from webdesign to music production and vice versa.. I know it is completely wrong to not have focus on one thing because you will not master that field at 100% and day is to short for doing everything you like to do. Sometimes i dont have mood for anything related to this two things. But that's the way it is. Maybe problem is in bad organization of my free time. I don't know.. But i think that, that is completely normal for every man / woman.. (sorry about my english)
Kind Regards

Welcome back to Alabama, Justin. I am originally from Florida but spent most of my formative years here. I left in 1989 to explore the world then came back in 2000 and will be here for the next few years (as often happens in these stories, I met a girl...) I agree with you that AL is certainly a peaceful place and I have found it highly conducive to focus.

So, glad you shared this post with us. I have been told the same thing about "the gifted". I never would have thought that you find it hard to focus with as much as you get accomplished. All that you are doing really doesn't matter if you aren't doing everything you want to be doing. I hope you understand that?

My greatest problem is that my mind is moving faster than I can move my body. I start one thing get it 75% done and think up a greater and better idea. I then run with that one till another one pops up and repeat! I can't seem to break myself of getting in my own way but I am getting better at it.

But you are very accomplished and you are really doing a lot for us in the WP community. It might be time for you to give to yourself and give yourself some time everyday to just sit down and write. Just like you take time to write these plugins and themes for the world take time to write for yourself. I am sure if you share that we will all love that too!

Hopefully, your move helps you find new joys and plots for your stories. I wish you the best Justin!

Best of luck with the move. I'm sure some Georgians will miss you, but I can completely understand. It's good to have these sorts of checkpoints and remember what is truly important.
