After the semi-success of my homemade tortillas, I decided to make my own bread. Let me just say that if you’ve never had homemade bread, you’re missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures. Plus, it’s super cheap to make.

Looks tasty. Did you use a mix and a machine or everything from scratch?
I did everything from scratch. I don’t have a machine, but it was easy to knead by hand.
I used to make bread all the time in the 90′s. I have this recipe that make 4 loaves and would mix it up in this HUGE bowl I have.
Been getting the urge to do it again, though Ron just bought me a breadmaker. We agree – nothing like homemade bread.
I’m itching to play around with my dad’s breadmaker. He uses it for all kinds of stuff. I don’t eat enough bread to warrant getting my own though.
Justin, I know you tried paleo/primal for a while. What didn’t you like about it? How do you eat now?
I like paleo/primal eating just fine. Of course, I love all kinds of food. I just didn’t see any results from it after about 11 months. Though I didn’t have any major setbacks from it either. The biggest downside to me was lower energy because the carbs were significantly lower.
Currently, I’m giving veganism a try (though I’ve slipped up once and had a cheeseburger). More than that, I’m just getting back to my roots and eating stuff that I know will keep me energetic. Basically, I eat a lot of potatoes, beans, rice, fruit, and vegetables.
Eventually, I think I’ll move more into a vegetarian direction or a low-meat, high-carb diet. But, we’ll see. It’s all an ongoing experiment. Thus far, a vegan diet has been the one to give me the most energy overall (before paleo/primal, I was on Eating-for-Life).
Nom nom nom!
I love making me own bread. I’m lazy and rarely get around to it though.
I love creating really sweet olive breads like this one http://random.ryanhellyer.net/home-baked-bread/
Nice! I have never thought about olive bread. I love olives on pizza though, so I’d probably love something like that too.
I got into breadmaking after finding out about Jim Lahey’s 5-minute, no-knead method. Highly recommended!
