Sometimes art just takes you wherever you’re supposed to go, kicking and screaming if it has to. This painting turned out nothing like I had planned, but I am happy with the result.

This was my first attempt at a portrait painting. I began by laying down a sketch with my pencils and then using the lines as a guide during the painting process, adjusting things along the way. I used a photo of a cosplayer of one of an animated TV series as a reference. I couldn’t seem to get any color right the entire time, but things worked themselves out.
