Mmm…can I put in a word for cross-resolution compatibility? My 800×600 resolution would thank you. :)

Well, it doesn’t take much to convince me. I’m actually all for keeping the 800×600 crowd happy. I’ve changed the theme to a fluid layout. The main divs are a little different, but it works.

I’ve been wondering if I should still design for the smaller screen resolutions or not. It’s a hard choice sometimes because so many of the bigger sites are going with fixed-width layouts that are 900px and larger. I guess it’s easy to assume that if they’re changing, then nobody is still using 800×600.

    So, thanks.

    like this theme very much

unfortunately i’m getting an error message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: wp_list_categories() in wordpress/wp-content/themes/blogging-simply/sidebar.php on line 17

is there anything i need to adapt?

Nchenga, do you have the latest version of Wordpress? You must have version 2.1 or newer for this to work.

If you don’t want to upgrade your version, you can use wp_list_cats() or list_cats(). Those should work. Just open the “sidebar.php” file and find “wp_list_categories()” and change it.

See this page on wp_list_categories() for more information.

I do recommend upgrading to the latest version.

I like this theme. It looks like its a remake of Quilm tho.

Never saw Qwilm until you mentioned it, and I Googled it. They are similar in style. However, this is a fluid layout as opposed to fixed. The other features are different archive and category pages.

    Glad you liked it!

yep, i’m on WP 2.0.5… that’ll be the reason.

(How about adding a little note to your posting above? Esp. since 2.0 woll be supported for a couple more sw cycles)

    cheers,

Nchenga, thanks for getting back to me and letting me know. I put “Wordpress 2.1+” under the requirements.

Thought I’d drop a line to say I like the overall look of the theme. And to thank you for your kind offer to adapt it to a four column layout. It is much appreciated.

hi – quick question i hope.. i’m getting unexpected 1pt border lines in posts when the domain loads and shows the last few posts. any idea why?? disabled the category but otherwise no changes to the code. any thought?? justin, also please let me know if you’re available for some lite “for pay” support, as i’m making a wish list of minor tweaks and might want them done by someone more knowledgeable and experienced than myself. thank you so much for this fine work and thank you in advance for the reply. best, fred

    Justin,

First off, nice name! I spent most of today trying to find a three column layout that would work for my page. Every one I downloaded was a total pain to customize. This, however, is working wonderfully. Thanks for creating it.

One question: where is it calling the sidebar.php includes? I can’t seem to find it for some reason. I’d like to figure out a way to put a big square block above the two columns on the right side, so I’m gonna work on trying to figure that out once I can figure out where the includes are …

    Thanks again!

    Justin

    Hi Justin,

I love the simplicity of this theme, and have activated it on my site (with a few slight color changes),however, when I run it through the XHTML validator, I get the following error.

Conflict between Mime Type and Document Type

Any ideas what I can do to correct this? I also tried testing it on this site, under “test theme”, and the same error comes up.

Barbara, I’m glad you like the theme. But, your site doesn’t seem to come up when I click on your link.

I check the theme for the mistake and I see what you’re referring to. Right now, I don’t have a lot of time online. But, I’ll look into the problem when I get the chance. I think all my themes are due for an update.

In the mean time, you can always find help at Wordpress.

Here’s a solution. It has to do with the Mime Type of XHTML 1.1. All you have to do is change everything to XHTML 1.0.

Erase everything above <head> in “header.php” and replace it with this:

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

Absolutely love this theme. Just having one issue when customizing the colors- when the body background is changed (not page background) the main navigation background disappears in Internet Explorer. It’s still fine in Firefox, but for IE it just doesn’t work. You can see what I’m talking about here: http://www.christmasjones.com/christmas – Any suggestions?
