I am Justin Tadlock.

I am also a writer. A front-end developer. A gardener. A small-town Alabama kid just trying to figure out whatever it is that that folks are supposed to figure out on this journey. Welcome to my little home on the web.

NaNoWriMo 2021: Jumping Back Into the Fray

Call me crazy. With as much as I have going on in November, I decided that I would pile 30 days of writing toward a 50,000-word novel draft on top of the load. Yes, I am participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) once again. I made a promise to … Continue reading →

2021-2022 Network TV Schedule

Gearing up for football season, I recently hooked up my outdoor antenna in the new home. The ViewTV antenna I bought in 2018 is still going strong. I’ve gone through the past year without access to network TV, but I have also been settling into a new home for most … Continue reading →

Southern Heritage

Southern Heritage is grandma’s fried chicken and cornbread. It is playing horseshoes with grandpa. It is picking the perfect watermelon in July. It is enjoying a glass of sweet tea under an old oak tree. Dirt roads and pickups. Deer hunting. Football on Fridays and Saturdays in the fall. Sundays … Continue reading →

Thirty-Seven

My past year on this earth was a bit of a whirlwind. Facing down the COVID-19 pandemic has not been easy on any of us. But, years from now, I think I’ll remember the good stuff. My life has changed for the better in so many ways. I am in … Continue reading →

Ruth Raventós interviewed me for Nelio Software’s WordPress professional of the month series. We covered my work at WP Tavern, Pro WP Plugin Dev, the future of WordPress, writing, reading, and my cats.

One thing I didn’t add is that taking a full-time job at the Tavern has given me a bit more structure. When running Theme Hybrid, my life revolved around the business. There was no balance. I needed to step away from that situation. Today, I can mostly shut off my online life at night or on the weekends, and there is something freeing about that.

2021 Goals

As I look back on the past year, it is hard to believe everything that happened. I am a proud owner of a new home that sits on 2.5 acres of land. I have worked as a full-time writer at WP Tavern for over a year. Plus, so many other … Continue reading →

2020: Counting My Blessings

I thought 2019 was a whirlwind of a year. 2020 decided to blindside us all, right? No year in review post can be written without mentioning the COVID-19 pandemic, at least in passing. As much as I hate what has happened to so many families this year, it has been … Continue reading →

Two-Car Garage; No White-Picket Fence

I have had the headline for this post ready to go for nearly two months now. I originally expected to close on my new home in early November. But, the closing date was pushed back. Pushed back again. And, pushed back once more. You just learn to roll with it. … Continue reading →

I finally updated the Professional WordPress Plugin Development book page for the 2nd edition today. Yeah, it is a few months later than I expected, but at least it is done now. As always, it is a work in progress.

If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can check out the archived 1e book page.

Oreo

Eleven days. I was fully prepared to say goodbye before Oreo came back into my life. He typically likes to stay out and about but generally remains within the yard. I thought he was lost forever. But, he came back. He did shed a little weight, which might not be … Continue reading →
