This week over at Mundane Monday we’re listing our Top 5 TV Shows.
Anyone who knows me, will understand that this is a hard decision because I have 100+ TV series on DVD. However, they also know that there’s a few shows that will always be my favorites. So, here’s my list:
- Firefly
Joss Whedon’s short-lived space-western. I can watch those 13 episodes over and over. It’s one series that doesn’t have a single episode I dislike. I always say, “If you haven’t experienced Joss, you haven’t lived.” His cast and crew worked great on this show. - Seinfeld
I grew up on this show. It could easily be at the top of this list. I can almost recite every episode. Now, that’s dedication to a TV series. - Angel
Yes, another Joss Whedon show. This is the best spin-off I’ve seen yet. It tops Buffy because it was more serious. It asked life’s great questions. It helped teach me that everything in life isn’t black and white. - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
This is here mostly because it introduced me to Joss Whedon (that’s 3 if you’re counting). It was the first TV show where I felt like the writers and directors built more on character development than plot. - Battlestar Galactica
This is my current favorite. I initially picked it up because I was in a sci-fi mood. I figured it would be some B-rated series, but it turned out to be much more than that. I have a feeling it might be in my top list of shows for some time to come.
It’s very hard to stop typing names of shows right now. I could probably break it down into a top five in drama and sitcom, then further into a few sub-categories of each one. This list could change in a few years’ time. Or, tomorrow. I’m always looking for the show that can top this list.

The Sopranos
Grey’s Anatomy
Brother and Sisters
American Idol
Lost
Michele sent me.
I never saw Firefly, but wasn’t the movie ‘Serenity’ based on the series? I loved that movie!
Bubs, it was based off it. You should definitely watch the series though. So much of what the characters say and how the characters act can only be understood by watching the series first.
You can easily watch the movie and have a great time though. I actually thought the backstory Joss gave at the beginning of Serenity was very good. It covered a lot of material in a short amount of time.
Kenju, The Sopranos is definitely up there for me. I lost a little bit of interest in Lost, but I’ll catch up on DVD later. I’ve watched the first season of Grey’s Anatomy, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it. Never seen Brothers and Sisters.
And, I’m anti-American Idol since they didn’t let my sister on the show. Actually, I’ve never really watched it.
Oh I love Buffy because of the quality character development and the fact that were close to zero holes in the entire storyline. Angel was ok for me, the first two seasons at least, then it was just downhill from there.
Kind of a sci-fi/fantasy guy, huh?
Sorry your sister didn’t make American Idol.
Will she try again?
Kat, that’s one thing I forgot to mention — Buffy hardly had any holes in the storyline. Angel’s fourth season was a little iffy for me, but season 5 more than made up for it.
Kwizgiver, I never realized I was a sci-fi/fantasy guy until a few years back. However, I enjoy all genres. Most of the time, I won’t watch crap, and a lot of the sci-fi/fantasy series are crap.
As far as my sister goes, I think she might try again. She mentioned some country show that’s like American Idol, but I don’t know what the name of it is. This summer she’s supposed to sing for a rock band in Georgia. We’ll have to see how that goes.
Firefly and Seinfeld are the best!
